About the Artists work:

Inspired by the elements and rhythm of the Islands landscape, people, nature, and local stories, her art inspires an instant feeling of having captured spirits caught between worlds; ours and theirs. Working in acrylics and mixed media (sometimes using found objects) Gallant's work seeks the mysterious spark at the heart of Island stories that been passed down by generations of natural observers and tellers. Karen Gallants paintings always seek attachment with the viewer, a point of contact which has bound us in an aesthetic, enduring and often emotional connection with the Island's lyrical landscape and the creatures which are joined to it.

About The Artist

Visual artist Karen Gallant is a native of South Rustico, Prince Edward Island.

For the past 17 years she has been exhibiting her paintings throughout Atlantic Canada, and her work is now part of many private collections in the region and around the world. She works out of her studio in her Hunter River home and also works and shows her paintings in her Studio Gallery in Rustico.

The style of Gallant's work is vibrant, energetic, simplicity and painterly. Both small to large scale pieces emerge, each with it's own intrinsic reason dÍtre. There is a hint of underlying symbolism in her work, often following the cycle of love to death, freedom through space and uninhibited thinking about the Island's environment and its ordered playful chaos.

Not surprisingly, her work is both accessible and sells well, but it also rooted in studied thought about the meaning of things in a not so obvious, experimental way.
